We don't need to tell you that the 70s revival is in full swing, but that doesn't mean that it's a passing trend. We here at Fitzroy have been feeling the style of rock n roll' s hottest decade from the start, often finding ourselves dreaming about what it would've been like to see Bowie and the Stones in concert in their prime, to drive around town with Tapestry and Blue on the radio while wearing the biggest bell bottom flares we could get our hands on. And while Mick Jagger certainly isn't getting any younger, we CAN bring the 70s vibe into our everyday lives and closets without looking like we've dressed up for a costume party.
The easiest answer comes in the form of chic black bell bottoms, as seen here on Rachel Zoe and countless other streetstyle bloggers and celebs.
So versatile you can wear them just about anywhere, we love them as part of a minimal, monochrome look. And while prints definitely work as well, there's something to be said for an all-black ensemble that lets the shape of the pant do the talking. Then layer on a hat or big sunnies, your fave purse and voila, you're good to go.
A few key things to keep in mind with pants like this. The hem should graze the floor, hiding your shoes or making them barely visible. This will help to elongate the leg (bell bottoms are ACES at this) and create a slim, sleek silhouette. For added effect wear with a heel or platform when possible.
In terms of tops, long and flowy work wonders with this look, but we also love them layered under a cute jacket or kimono. The possibilities are pretty endless once you have the right base. We suggest this stunning skinny-stretch pair from Show Me Your Mumu. They just arrived and we have yet to take them off! How could a single piece of clothing be so flattering and so comfortable at the same time?? That, dear friends, is the magic of MUMU.
We LOVE how this blogger has paired her bells with a striped top and Chloe bag. Nailed it.
You can even pair them with a simple black blouse and rock them to the office. We swear!
Then on the weekends go full-on boho-babe like the one and only Rachel Zoe. (praise hands emoji!!!)
Still not convinced? Check out this trailer for Scorsese's new HBO series VINYL. We predict a LOT of center-parts in our near future...
